Echoes of the Past: Police Violence, Slavery and the Continuity of Racism in Brazil

The text reflects on how the legacies of transatlantic slavery continue to shape contemporary Brazil through systemic racism, police violence, and the criminalisation of Black communities.

The Project

Slavery and its Legacies is an AHRC-funded research project that brings together a diverse team of curators, filmmakers, anthropologists, sociologists and historians from Ghana, Brazil, Domica and Britain to creatively explore how histories of Atlantic slavery are remembered, mobilised and contested among communities impacted by its legacies.
